Fitness App
A fitness app designed to improve user retention by addressing key pain points in their journey.
- My role
- Product Designer
- Duration
- 2-3 weeks
- Teams
- Self UI/UX
Objective
To explore the domain of fitness apps, understand user struggles and expectations, and design a solution that enhances their fitness journey.
Problems Identified
I identified several pain points related to fitness app usage. I then categorized these problems based on whether they were out of scope, partially addressed, or directly tackled through my design.
- Out-of-scope problems
- Considered & incorporated
- Main problem addressed
Persona
To better understand the users, I developed two key personas based on secondary research. These personas helped me explore solutions for the problems identified.
UX Strategy
On reviewing a few competitor apps, I mapped out a set of features focused on improving user retention and moved forward with those as core parts of the app experience.
The Process
An important step was to iterate on the design. While this section focuses on one key part of the app and its improvements, many other elements were also refined over time to enhance the overall design.
Iteration 1 (left)
- Issue: No visibility of challenges or workouts.
Iteration 2 (center)
- Issue: Layout feels cluttered and segmented unnaturally.
- Issue: Stats are not visually aligned.
Iteration 3 (right)
- Improvement: Clean horizontal layout makes stats easy to scan.
- Improvement: Balanced spacing improved readability.
- Improvement: Overall structure feels purposeful and motivating.
Final Design
The final design showcases all the elements together, offering a clear view of the interface and the rationale behind each design decision.
Key Takeaways
Although I focused on just one part of the app, this project gave me a good understanding of the end-to-end design process, from identifying user pain points to delivering a solution.
Power of Iteration
Continuous iterations helped me in improving clarity and make better decisions with each step.
End to End Process
Even by focusing on one feature, I got a clear understanding of the full design journey, from research to final UI.
